NASW is instrumental in assuring that the values and ethics of
our profession are incorporated into pending legislation before
the U.S. Congress and in the Maine Legislature. The NASW-Maine Chapter
is committed to advancing professional social work practice and
to promoting human rights, social and economic justice, and unimpeded
access to services for everyone.
The social work profession was founded in social change. Through
the profession’s history, social workers have sought to ensure
that all people have equal access to the resources and opportunities
that allow them to meet their basic needs. The NASW-Maine Chapter
upholds this challenge by advocating for the association to Members
of Maine Legislature. Each year, the NASW-Maine Chapter develops
a legislative agenda, which asserts the Association’s legislative
priorities for that legislative cycle. NASW’s legislative
agenda is always consistent with the core values of our professiona
and in harmony with NASW policies in Social
Work Speaks that was developed by members of the association
at Delegate Assembly.
